Damaged Goods

Page history last edited by letswriting 2 years, 6 months ago

Some slaves are well looked after - fed, clothed, never abused or beaten and generally taken care of as though they were human beings. Damaged Goods is the exact opposite of that.

A Damaged Goods slave is likely to be introduced as a starved, scarred and terrified mess - at which point a kind-hearted new owner will often swoop in to save them. This kind of slavefic generally has a lot of hurt/comfort material, especially if the plot revolves around the slave's journey towards something resembling normalcy. Very rarely will a severely Damaged Goods character get even more crap heaped on them without something positive to make up for it, since a story like that would probably be painfully depressing.

The Damaged Goods trope tends to come hand-in-hand with Kindly Owner, Purchase as Rescue (of course), and a good dose of Healing Salve. Can lead to a Why Don't Ya Just Free Him situation if the author isn't careful.
